Bakir graduated in 2016 with a Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from Barts and the London, School of Medicine and Dentistry.

He currently works as a Foundation Year 2 Doctor in the North West of England. He has a keen interest in head and neck surgery, teaching and research. He is currently a Junior Staff Editor for the Annals of Medicine and Surgery journal.

In 2015, Bakir was awarded a First Class Honours for his intercalated BSc degree in Oral Biology, winning the George Hankey Prize as the top ranking student amongst his peers. His research in gene expression patterns in oral squamous cell carcinomas was funded by the prestigious Rod Flower Scholarship, resulting in numerous national and international presentations. In 2016, he won the award for best oral presentation at the Undergraduate Maxillofacial Conference in London, UK.
