Yan Ning Neo (or Johnson as he preferred to be called),is currently undertaking the Academic Foundation Programme in NHS Tayside, Scotland. Johnson completed his undergraduate training in University of Edinburgh, during which he received a variety of awards and prizes, including an external student research grant awarded by Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Glasgow to undertake a research assistantship at Harvard Medical School.
Johnson’s research interests include epidemiology and clinical outcome studies both in ophthalmology and surgery. He set up the ocular biometrics database in Edinburgh, and is now part of the GoDARTS (genetics resource initially funded by the Wellcome Trust and supported by Diabetes UK) research team in Dundee, looking at the correlation between retinal microvascular and clinical parameters.
He has published several peer reviewed journal articles and delivered multiple award-winning international and national scientific presentations. He is a reviewer of the Royal Society of Medicine Edinburgh medical journal Res Medica.
Having received a postgraduate certificate in medical education from The University of Dundee, Johnson is interested in how effective medical education can be delivered. He is also an anatomy demonstrator at The University of Dundee, tutor for postgraduate MRCS anatomy revision course and organiser for multiple undergraduate teaching sessions. He is the author of “Clinical Pharmacology for Obstetrics and Gynaecology Pocket Book” as well as an online tutorial for University of Dundee “Therapeutics in Ophthalmology”.
