Kaivan graduated from the University of Manchester, where he was also awarded a Masters of Research degree (with Distinction) for his work with Professor Anthony Heagerty at the Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility. He completed a sub-internship at the Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, before commencing Academic Foundation Training (Cardiovascular programme) at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals in London.
He was subsequently appointed to NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow in Cardiology at King's College London, and more recently awarded a British Heart Foundation Clinical Research Fellowship. His research interest is the interplay between small artery injury, conduit vessel disease and myocardial dysfunction (particularly diastolic), with mechanistic foci on cardiovascular inflammation and redox signaling.
He has published his work in the leading cardiovascular journals, edited a book, published several invited chapters, and given presentations at the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association and the International Society of Hypertension. He has won a number of prizes, including the British Microcirculation Laboratory Visit Grant, the American Heart Association Young Investigator Travel Award, and the Isaac Schapera Research Award, as well as the RSM SMG Silver Research Medal. This year he was nominated as a 'Next Generation Academic Role Model' by the BMA Medical Academic Staff Committee.
